Kostelec nad Česrnými lesy - arboretum
Arboretum is a botanical garden, specialized for wooden trees planting. Despite the fact that this arboretum serves for the University faculty, public educational path is led through. The park was founded by Antonín Svoboda, Professor of dendrology and botanics. Just in 1945, he started here to plant (on former pasture land) some chosen wooden trees. The extent of 4 ha was increased up to 8 ha of space. Arboretum has a style of English park. Wooden trees are placed in accordance with ecological requirements and even an esthetic effect was managed to be done. So, immediadely at the entrance, you can admire old oaks. There were planted here before the arboretum was established. Since 1945, (it is not too long time period) there are to be found such trees which reached pretty big dimensions. To such trees which are too big, it belongs, no doubt, pine tree „vejmutovka“. The English park has typucal transparent places, so that the surrounding countryside could be seen. So, you can admire, from nice view, local castle. The path is suitable for foot-passengers only.
